In the summer of 2024, I interned at Intuit Mailchimp's headquaters in Atlanta, GA, where I explored how mobile CRM experiences could better support small and medium business owners and marketers. This internship gave me hands-on experience in both research and product design on toB products, strengthened my visual and product thinking skills, and enhanced my ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

what is Mailchimp CRM?

Mailchimp is an all-in-one marketing platform that provides small businesses with CRM (Customer Relationship Management) tools. Its mobile CRM app extends these capabilities on-the-go, helping users manage their audiences, track analytics, recover abandoned carts, and act quickly on insights to grow their businesses.

task management input optimization

Iterated on the Job Creation flow—the central feature of Mailchimp’s CRM app—expanding input flexibility and tolerance for diverse and complex data, improving usability for a broad range of marketers.

AI-driven analytics & shortcuts/

Designed an AI-powered analytics hub and mobile shortcuts, surfacing real-time performance insights and contextual recommendations directly on mobile, helping marketers act quickly and effectively under the on-the-go scenarios.

onboarding, sign-up, account management

Led redesign of the sign-up and account management flows across two Mailchimp mobile Apps, improving clarity and accessibility for 5M+ daily users. 

mobile e-mail editor user testing/

Conducted user testing for the Mobile Nuni app, analyzing feedback from 500+ participants; uncovered 30+ usability issues in the mobile email editor and delivered actionable recommendations for the product migration roadmap.

automation on mobile

Explored mobile pre-build journeys and automation workflow design with a focus on abandoned cart users. Initiated forward-looking project on mobile automation and conducted research to guide its future implementation.

brand alignment/

Developed and refined mobile CRM app logos across multiple versions and scales, ensuring consistency with Mailchimp’s evolving brand system.

vibrant communication/

I truly enjoyed working in a diverse and energetic team, where open communication and team spirit made collaboration feel vibrant and meaningful.

meeting vs work/

In a hybrid work environment, I learned the importance of balancing efficient communication with focused individual output, while also developing stronger ways of collaborating with different roles.

rapid testing skills/

As a designer, I gained practical skills in running fast and effective user testing, and through participating in brainstorming sessions, I experienced how multiple designers can contribute and build on each other’s ideas.

keep thinking outside the scope/

Most importantly, I built an awareness of maintaining core design thinking while fulfilling team responsibilities—proposing, experimenting, and quickly validating innovative ideas, especially within the context of Mailchimp’s AI restructuring blueprint.
